The right to not have rights is mainly seen through the politics, which appears to base on the same rights and deny them at the same time, this is why it is common to see parties like Recrear talking about demagoguery and problems in other parties while their own affiliates, as seen in a reader’s letter in the newspaper La Nacion, who claim involvement, and funnily enough must go to such media to be heard, like Agustin’s Etchebarne case, which my answer to his published concern was: Democracy is a right and you are correct when claiming it, even in Recrear where democracy and its’ practice is dictated. We appreciate your action and I am sorry for the obstacles you face, but fight, it is what we must do. Best regards. He answers: the truth is that so far I have received many mails from people who are concerned and wish the party would improve, but not one single reply from the board...Anyways, we will have to keep on fighting, take care, Agustin.
It is time to reflect on us as a society and its components.
This can relate to an important poll done to the young people, especially students, and which results were known a few days ago.
The question was if they would accept to be benefited in a wrong action if the monetary outcome would be really large. 19% said yes, 24% did not know, 3% could not answer and 54% answered with a definitive no.
What is really concerning is that this poll question was not spread around as it deserves, even with its seriousness and amplitude from where the sample was taken.
It is not that we have to be scared of the result, but we should definitely be bothered so we can understand that rulers and those who they represent, even when it is not the majority, have lost a good part of the values of ethics, etc.
We don’t even think that prisoners should have rights, while we go from tragedy to tragedy and it is not that we must not care because it is them who die, because eventually death will come to the guards and innocent people.
¿ How is it possible that the national and state governments do not take matters into their hands about this reality, while the ONU does for our country and carries out the efficient medicine, which only consists in providing the convicts with jobs and dignifying places for them to serve their punishment and time?
Lets agree that we cannot expect from them, when they get out of jail, nothing more than the revenge against the whole society, since most of the prisons are in overpopulated caverns, and mixed in a irresponsible matter, those who are being processed with those who are sentenced, delinquents with life sentence with simple trouble makers, which for their fortune-disgrace are able to acquire high levels of narcotrafics for them to use.
It is well said by the criminologist Elias Neuman from a sociological vision: one of the problems brought by the neoliberalism is the absence of the ethic sense with respect to the human life.
He manifests, exaggerating perhaps, that he never knew an ex-convict who was able to readapt.
“What happens is that people who end up in jail are people from below, who have no chances, who have a deep hate concerning their own situation.”
In a survey done to prisoners between 17 and 18 years old, where it was asked what life expectations they had, they answered that they thought they would live until the age of 25 or 30.
“Be careful on how we treat a prisoner. If we do not treat him like a human being, we can’t expect from him to treat us like human beings.”
However, what happened after the football match in Brazil, takes us back to our disgraceful lack of self-criticism and what is so common of blaming each other, or pointing out that we were set up.
It is our way of living that is reflected there.
It is our way of living of everything is O.K.
Where one can pass by a red traffic light.
Where one can drive at whatever speed one feels like, no matter what the limit is.
Where one can smoke where one should not.
Where one does not have to pay because one can always wait for a moratorium.
Where one can rob or kill because the causes prescribe.
Where one can drive without wearing the seat belt.
Where one can drive a motorcycle without a helmet.
Where one can ask for everybody to leave, and then vote for those who were asked to leave.
Where one bribes to avoid control.
Where the other’s life has no significance.
Because of that, the right to not have rights starts because we apply our duties first, and because we look at each other so we never blame who is responsible.
To do and not demand, so we don’t end in simple reader’s letters.
